  1. They will eventually study in the U.S. as university students, and I wonder if they will miss the safety of Japan. Recently, there was a mass shooting in Texas, but since the difficulty level of gun ownership differs from state to state, I wonder if my fears are unfounded. It is cute how many times the children's mothers say "Youchien (which means kindergarten in Japanese)" instead of kindergarten.

  3.  @brianh6  Well said, Brian. From a perspective other than probability, car accidents and random shootings are not matters that should be compared. While some car accidents are indeed caused with malicious intent, all random shooting incidents are crimes committed intentionally. That is why there are calls for thorough gun control, but no calls for the suspension of car sales or car licenses. Driving is essentially a convenient tool to arrive at one's destination safely, but a gun can be a tool of self-defense or a tool to take another person's life, depending on the owner's intentions.
