I am Japanese, but nowadays automatic translation apps are readily available on smartphones, and foreign tourists are unlikely to experience any inconvenience. Of course, if they are staying for a long time or emigrating, foreigners will need to learn Japanese seriously, but it is not easy because many Japanese people struggle to even learn English. Some foreigners believe that wherever they live in Japan, they only speak English and do not need to speak Japanese in order to maintain their pride, identity and identity.

I respect you as a Japanese. I hope that many foreign tourists will have the high awareness and good manners that people like you have.

Americans never learn Japanese, either as a tourist or as an immigrant.

Google Translate does not translate to cultural understanding.

It takes a lot of courage for a rude foreigner who makes no attempt to learn Japanese at all to fulfill the purpose of the trip using only English, but this would not be the case if the interview were conducted outside of Tokyo. There are not many young people, and even the foreign travelers with whom we interviewed would not be in the local cities or countryside in the first place. We are lucky to be raised by parents who speak a global language, but once you grow up in that fortunate environment, it is the English-speaking world, and this channel, that celebrates those who act as lazy and do not learn the local language with impunity.

It made me laugh when I read comments from foreigners who came to Japan to preach to us.

As a Japanese I agree with you. In reality, English-speaking people do not even try to learn even basic greetings in difficult Japanese for a short stay such as business trip or travel. I was surprised as I watched a TV program in which a middle-aged American man confidently confided that he could not speak Japanese at all, even though he had lived in Japan for more than 13 years. He was married to a Japanese woman, so she must have spoiled her husband like an interpreter.

@Handles_are_garbage Yes, reality is terrible.

1. We who speak English, the global language, are great. 2. This is a flawed statement as the proverb "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" cannot justify discrimination based on race. 3. Japanese people have to learn English for us, but they should not continue speaking their mother tongue. While I, as a Japanese person, agree with some of the arguments presented, I am aware that many foreigners who have not been to Japan and take pride in their own countries and mother tongues may hold the above beliefs.

@SYMX2468 sorry, please tell me about 紫.

Well said, Sam. As a Japanese, I wish most foreigners coming to Japan were like you. Some rude tourists may perhaps want to show off to us the joys and benefits of being born in an English-speaking country.

The kind of foreigners I find disgusting are the kind of people who look down on Japanese people who cannot speak English. After all, they were lucky enough to be born in an English-speaking country or to parents who spoke English fluently, and it is clearly racist to insult another ethnic group on the grounds of English.

btw, first girl is tall.

It is only natural that many people in Tokyo and famous tourist destinations speak English. An easy comparison between urban areas and regional cities will not provide correct information.
