The fact that nations without guns are not these crazy dictatorships means either it is an unfounded fear in a modern day democracy, or the people themselves are a check, armed or not

  19. The government should be kept in check, but at least in the case of America, it is elected officials and courts that should be that first check. If you are unhappy with the government, take it up with your representatives and if they do nothing, start protesting. Do you honestly think that in the White House, they ever think about the fact that the population is armed before they make any decisions?

So why not try our best to reduce the impact and loss of live in said inevitable violence? And those laws are in place to protect people, yes. As are gun control laws. What massive hindrance is given to legal gun owners by having tighter gun control?
