Why not? Christianity is a religion with so many different churches, denominations, beliefs, practices etc. If you read the Bible and you believe you can both be Gay and Christian, do as you please as far as I am concerned.

If we are talking about literal historic events, then historical sources show that the New Testament is factually inaccurate on matters including the reign of Herod, the Roman census, and many archaeological statements. There are plenty of faults in scripture, from scientific to internal contradictions and obvious additions and admissions from its multiple authors making any attempt to discern the true words of the Bible impossible. His "love" does not come into it, especially since everything you know about his love comes from a book that you can't prove is actually his word

I am sure there are many people who go through transformative experiences that they later attribute to God, but there is no good reason to think they are actually caused by a deity

And aside from that, people want to be informed about something before they make a decision. Most of the atheists I know have a better understanding of most self professed Christians you would find walking down the street. I myself read it out of a somewhat sense of morbid curiosity

An appeal to authority is almost always viewed as a fallacy when employed in an argument. The only times it may perhaps make sense and be permitted is when both parties agree on the reliability of the authority in that particular context. We both clearly do not agree, therefore you are committing a fallacy again. And this last point is just classic presuppositionalism at its best. Leaving you still without a single piece of evidence or rationale that the Bible is the word of God...

The very definition of a fallacious appeal to authority is when the authoritative nature of figure/body is called into question. You are appealing to the authority of a being whose existence is not proven in order to prove the validity of the book that supposedly proves the being's existence. It's a logical mess, and still leaves you with no proof that the Bible is the word of God, which is just getting ridiculous at this point. Why not just concede and say you have no proof?

Maybe this will help keep any potential future response from yourself more focused on actually addressing what I say. 1. You seem to be claiming developing science actually supports the Bible. That its claims hold up over time. How so and even if so, what is that supposed to prove about its origins? 2. You are shocked with how much time I have spent on this conversation? It has not taken much from me to respond to your points. It is also slightly laughable you raise the length of time this has taken as you are the key factor. You made a claim, I asked for proof, you presented it, I critiqued. The next step in this progress would be to either recognize the problems I raise and concede, or raise issues of your own with my critique. You don't seem keen to do either. 3. When did I ever say I haven't read the Bible.....? You open by suggesting I have some false image of you in my head, you clearly have one of me in yours. 4. Many books inspire, "holy books" or not. This doesn't mean they are of divine origin. Your opinions on other Holy Books, just that, opinions. None of it proof. 5. Unity of its parts? And the "illiterate man from a desert" did not say everything you just said. You are taking an ambiguous phrasing and using our current scientific knowledge to fill in the gaps. If the book actually gave a detailed description of the universe as we know it now, that would be impressive. But it doesn't. So of course any reasonable person will have doubt. You have still given no reason to believe the Quran is the word of God.

I referenced the synoptic gospels, the main source for knowledge about Jesus and his life and times. All written long after he supposedly died, by people who couldn't have been there. "Matthew's" writings prove nothing about prophecy. He had access to the old testament at his time of writing. Makes it easy to include things in his work that appear to show those prophecies coming true and lending credence to Christianity. There is plenty of work done pointing out how it is quite likely each Gospel had multiple authors, pointing out contradictions and odd differences between them. It sounds like you have not stopped to look at the origin of the bible from a historical standpoint
