  1. While your comment has financial prudence, geopolitics is what compels the overspend. Countries want to avoid the middle income trap that has seen the SEA tigers and Japan stagnate. Staying still is death in this new world.

  2.  @debchak27  I agree with you on the sentiment, but the modern system has posed a huge risk of disruption if one follows the model. US in particular has mastered the art of old money to the degree even OPEC will not be safe in the coming years.
