This was a very impressive interview for once from RG if you understand that he was speaking for his potential clients rather than his electorate. He played up three fundamental premises: 1. The only reason he is not in power is Adani and the "democracies" of the world need to come together to help him regain power while his own party does not allow dissent, uses access to state to crack down on criticism and has a sketchy track record on institutional capture themselves. 2. To his credit, he thankfully did not double down on his hot takes on China and instead implied it was just bad management on BJP's part. He did not go as far as to indicate a policy change but opened the door by indicating it was contingent on economic cooperation. 3. He focused too hard on Modi and Adani as the fundamental challenges to democracy, but none of them landed for a domestic audience because people are experiencing the change for themselves but for an abcd crowd that isn't big on Modi, this is yet another seminal "Baba has grown up" moment.
