  2. Yea... never mind the FACT that it is Russia bombing Syrian neighborhoods... NOT THE US!!! And the US also didn't bomb Libyan neighborhoods... as per the ARAB LEAGUE request and UN approval (Russia included), NATO forces hit Libyan forces who were attacking Libyans protesting Gaddafi.

  3. I wish Western nations would provide Ukraine with tens of thousands of small long-range missiles capable of hitting Russian cities... this way, the Russian people can get a taste of what's happening to the Ukrainian people if Russia attacks.

And this is not NATO against Russia... this is Russia against the world as the VAST MAJORITY of the world has made their views clear that Russia invading ANY neighboring country is wrong!   15. Maybe you're not aware of the FACT... NATO never made a single promise not to expand to other nations! NOT A SINGLE PROMISE TO DO SO and NO DOCUMENTED AGREEMENT exists that says so!!! And if Mexico was allowing Chinese forces in their lands to protect themselves from a US invasion of their territory... I would say good for Mexico and I am an American. But since MEXICO and the US are allies and friendly with each other, Mexico doesn't fear the US like how Russia's neighbors fear Russia so I'm in no fear of Chinese or Russian troops in Mexico! Now let me ask you... Imagine the US de facto annexing a part of Canada and Mexico, fueling tensions in about every neighboring country and frequently closing of gas pipelines (preferably in winter) to put pressure on elections, poisoning presidential candidates etc... Would you think Canada and Mexico should have the right to look for a defensive partner?

  17.  @aum8136  Good point... now, how has Russia profited from some secret deal? But there is no doubt that in my mind that Putin messed up... no matter what happens, the US wins in this mess. The US has wanted the Europeans for YEARS to start taking their defense more seriously and now they are forced too because of Putin. But I don't see anything good for Russia in this.

Russia is already in Crimea and even though NATO still believes Crimea belongs to Ukraine, if Ukraine joins NATO today, Russia holding Crimea wouldn't be a new invasion on that country and so NATO is not beholden to article 5 of self-defense. The Ukrainian president himself mentioned this in Munich just the other day!

Maybe it's you that needs to re-read what I wrote because I clearly stated that how NATO could not be used to re-take Crimea and I'll also say again, listen to what the Ukrainian president said this weekend in Munich about Crimea... NATO cannot take back Crimea even if Ukraine joins NATO today!!!

And if you want to watch something... watch an interview with Gorbachev on Russian tv about the MYTH of a promise about NATO expansion! 2014.... Mikhail Gorbachev gave an interview to "Russia Beyond" a Russian state-owned news agency RIA Novosti... in the interview he was asked why he had not sought a document to legally encode what Baker had said about not moving “one inch further east.”... Gorbachev explained that the Baker remark was being taken out of context and replied: “The topic of ‘NATO expansion’ was not discussed at all.” and later in the interview he clarified what the actual context was... “Making sure that NATO’s military structures would not advance and that additional armed forces would not be deployed on the territory of the then-GDR [German Democratic Republic] after German reunification. Baker’s statement was made in that context.” ... There was NO promise NATO wouldn't expand to other nations, there was a verbal “understanding” that NATO forces wouldn't move an inch into East Germany and build bases after Russia allowed Germany to unite and even that was just a VERBAL understanding.
