Disney doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of competing with Netflix. Disney announced they will not produce TV-MA content for their streaming service, which automatically eliminates the largest and most important demographic who subscribe to streaming, males between 18-49. This is the demographic that is the most loyal to Netflix, they drive 100% of the traffic on social media for Netflix shows, which drives daily entertainment news, which brings in more subscribers. The only pretender to the Streaming Throne, pardon the pun, is HBO.

Content is not king. If that were true Hulu would be the most popular streaming service on the internet. Hulu had 80% of all television and movie content at their disposal and Apple has 90%. But yet Netflix crushed them both.

@ChristianityExplained Hulu and Netflix started their streaming services the exact same year, 2007. Hulu had four times the content than Netflix but Netflix started with TV MA content, where Hulu had a mandate from ABC, Disney, Fox, and NBC they were going to stay TV PG. We all know who won that Limited streaming War.

@ChristianityExplained So, the bottom line here is name recognition had zero to do with it.

@ChristianityExplained Yeah, you heard of Netflix before 2007 because they mailed you DVDs, keep in mind they could barely compete with Blockbuster at first, but as far as streaming goes Hulu had the support and exclusive content of three major television networks ABC, NBC, and FOX and 5 Major Movie Studios and Hulu still could not compete with Netflix. Also, Apple which is a much larger company than Netflix started in streaming around 2002, that's 5 years before Hulu or Netflix even got into streaming. But yet Netflix still came out on top with their limited content because of their TV MA content.

@ChristianityExplained Netflix is all about Statistics & Analytics, that's how they know the largest demographic for streaming are males between 18 and 49. That's why they invested heavily in TV MA content. This demographic also drives 100% of the social media conversations about Netflix television shows, which drives almost all of the entertainment news that you see on television. Which only increases Netflix's subscription rate, it's a vicious circle. The reason why Netflix recently canceled two of their Marvel television shows is because they said there wasn't enough conversation on social media about those shows anymore.
