  2. skalmaa Body Armor and Bulletproof Vests are different. Body Armor or as it's known in the U.S. military as a "Flak Jacket" consists of several Metal Plates slightly overlapping one another, whereas a Bulletproof Vest is Layered Mesh Kevlar. Once a bullet makes contact with Kevlar it weakens the Mesh webbing.

  3. skalmaa The two guys who robbed the Bank of America they got milltary grade body armor from an Army Navy Surplus. They had top-of-the-line military fragmentation vest. A Police Issue 9-millimeter or 45 is not going to penetrate that type of flak jacket, that's why the bullets were bouncing off of those two. The entire robbery didn't come to a conclusion until SWAT showed up and they had to bring out the heavy machine guns because their P90s were ineffective as well.

  4. skalmaa Well, when you talk about ceramic plates you're talking about Dragon Skin that's a different type of body armor it's lighter and it combines ceramic plates with Kevlar. And it really depends on how you ask about it because some people say it's just as good as metal plates other people say it's not but that's considered body armor and not a traditional bulletproof vest just using Kevlar.

  5. skalmaa Police departments use Kevlar because your average criminal isn't going to be using an AK-47 or any type of heavy machine gun and Kevlar will stop the most commonly used handguns like a 9mm, 22, 38, or a 45.

  6. skalmaa It depends on what kind of plates they used [Cast iron or Steel] and how many plates they used? They can weigh as little as 60 lb to about 150 lb's. This is why the US military has moved away from that type of body armor. You can't carry that type of weight for very long in a firefight because it starts to weigh you down.

  7. skalmaa Keep in mind these Bank of America robbers weren't planning on having a firefight with the police they were planning to get in and out before the police showed up, but it was their bad luck there were police officers relatively close when the robbery happened.

  8. skalmaa The 5.56 might be able to penetrate the cast iron but not the solid steel plates. For the steel plates you might need a 50 cal.

  9. skalmaa By the way, when I say they got those flak jackets from an Army Navy Store I mean they robbed in Army Navy store because it's illegal to sell military grade body armor to civilians, they can only sell that type of body armor to police and law enforcement.
