I have been saying this since 1992, when I went to the USA as an exchange student from Italy: the problem with American highschools is that they do not teach philosophy. European highschools teach philosophy. Philosophy promotes critical thinking. The USA do not want voters with critical thinking, especially not the Republicans.

@TheRealSkreegle the USA is inherently anti-intellectual 😂 I went to an American highschool for a year. It was like kindergarden compared to Italian highschools. Education is more valued in Europe. We study philosophy and critical thinking in highschool here. I think it is the main reason why religion in Europe is pretty much dead. Yes, even in Italy. Actually, especially in Italy.

@intuitionz1198 yes, the American system is anti-intellectuals by design. Europeans value education much more, that's why our Universities are usually free. And our highschools are not about proms, sports, and cheerleaders 😂 They are about actually studying. I know not from movies, but from personal experience as an exchange student in the USA.

@darkstarr984 In Italy philosophers are in every talk show, political debate, even in bars everyone is a "philosopher" after a few glasses of wine 😂 we have a long history of philosophy, starting with ancient Rome. Another ever present voice in Italian politics is Trade Unions. Our Union leaders are as important as any Party leaders. I never saw any philosophers or Union leaders on American TV when I lived in Missouri for a year or in Florida for 6 months. French philosophers are quite important too.

@darkstarr984 I live in Padova. Our University is one of the oldest in the world, only second to Bologna I think. Some philosophic doctrines started in our University centuries ago. "Aristotelismo Padovano" for example was the basis for modern scientific thinking and an inspiration for Galileo Galilei.

@darkstarr984 @darkstarr984 Italian philosophers are always present in Italian talk shows and political debates. Union leaders too. I lived in the USA for periods of time and I never saw philosophers or Union leaders on TV. French philosophers are pretty important too.
