In Europe Sanders would not be a radical at all. Antifa is "radical" (in a good way), and we just send one of them to the EU parliament. American politics are too right wing.

@movestattoo4561 I mean the EU. Bernie is a social democrat, basically centre, center-left. No radical. There are socialist and communist parties that are more left and radical left.

@GazB85 no. Antifascists were NOT all communists and socialists. There were catholics, republicans, liberals etc. too.

In Europe, we teach philosophy in highschools. In the USA, they dont. This is a huge difference. Let's not forget the 1968 movement started in France and Italy and involved many philosophers and their students. Philosophy is dangerous. 😂

@movestattoo4561 not all of them are EU countries. We are talking about the EU parliament here. We know Hungary is an outlier in the EU. To me, they should not even be in the EU. They are anti-EU anyway.

@samspade5648 I know. I was an exchange student in the USA in 1992. My English was bad when I got there, but they still put me (a junior) in senior classes. Which to me were like kindergarden. Seriously, years behind my highschool in Italy. And education in Italy is not the best in the world. Japan, South Korea, Northern Europe are better than us. And I am talking about 1992. My host family was rich and progressive, that was the highschool they sent their kids to.

@movestattoo4561 Hungary yes. Belarus is not a EU country. When I say Europe I mean the EU, and mostly Western Europe. East Europe is different. Bernie Sanders in the EU parliament would not sit with the Communist Parties.

@nealiecruz2532 I am glad someone understands that what Sanders wants for Americans is not "radical". It is the norm here in Europe. Even the far right parties wouldnt get rid of the welfare state here. Underfunding it, yes. Which is bad. But no getting rid of it.

@harrietharlow9929 You know, I think that's a problem of the American culture and even religion. In Europe religion is pretty much dead, but still, in many countries Catholicism was an influence on the culture for centuries. So was socialism (the scary big wolf in the USA 😂). Both Catholicism and socialism are collectivist movements. Both (in different ways obviously) are about helping the poor/ the vulnerable/ the working class. American Evangelicals on the other hand are NOT collectivist and are NOT about helping the poor. It's a terrible religion. Personally I am an atheist, but I prefer European christians to American christians. Totally different.

@movestattoo4561 yes, I am concerned too, of course. But in the EU it's not as bad as the USA (yet). In France the Left won the latest elections. In Italy young people voted Left parties. Many people did not vote at all because all choices were bad. If the Left goes back to being REALLY progressive and not just another neoliberal party, I am sure they would get many more votes. In many countries the Left has abbandoned the working classes and is not united. In Italy we have at least 3 main Left parties, but they don't even get along 😞

But dont you think we also have the opposite? Antifa? Ever heard of Ilaria Salis? Why do you think only the far right is rising? When the far right rises, so does the far left. You just need to look at history.

@GazB85 communists are fascists' natural enemies, but Italian partisans were from a very wide political spectrum. As were French partisans.

@GazB85 partisans in Italy were all part of CLN (commitee for national liberation) and included many different political factions, from anarchists and communists to catholics and republicans.
