@Ok-oo2kh It is not that the Japanese literally treat them as foreigners. In fact, in Japan, the term "顔が濃い" or "外国人っぽい" is used as a compliment. So, there are Japanese people who say "you look like a foreigner" to Japanese people with strong features, but this does not mean that they do not treat them as Japanese, but rather that they look foreign and attractive. For example, in Japan, for a long time, words such as "un-Japanese" were used to describe excellent Japanese athletes in sports, etc. So it is quite a misconception that the Japanese treat Okinawans and others as foreigners.
