But culturally all the straight Brexiteers I know want nothing to do with Europe, on any level, really. I should add, I’m pro-European on the cultural level but deeply suspicious of Brussels, even although I was a remainer. Just. Also, I never mentioned NATO: you did.

  5.  @joshbentley2307  I never implied anything of the sort. You brought up NATO. I was simply making the valid point that a great swathe of the UK population feel they have little to nothing in common with the rest of Europe, that’s all. I, personally, think that’s a bit sad, but it happens to be true. You need to look a little closer at Europe, mate. Have you not noticed the rise of the populist right in the past decade or so? Check this out as these guys don’t buy a globalised world, let alone a European one. They also don’t seem to buy liberal democracy either.

  6.  @morrigangg  No need for the personal brickbats, love. I never suggested Germany was going to not look west and continue to be the bulwark of the EU and NATO in Europe. My point was to say that some of us (eg. Britain) are already not looking in the same way on certain matters as their a European brethren, that’s all. I’m no ‘idiot’ btw. Think on.

  9.  @Honking_Goose  Yes, I get that at the geopolitical level. I was just making the point that a great many Brits feel no real common ground with the rest of Europe. Brexit was a symptom of this, that’s all. If anything we look west to the Americans culturally. I get the point about NATO and, yes, 30 of us are under that protective umbrella.
