But he wouldn’t. Gross exaggeration. There is no doubt that Islam seems to be treated a bit differently, but if this had happened in England he would have been prosecuted and sent to jail for a very long time.

@-Tidgy ”You do realise Labour are talking about releasing Axel…after less than a year.” Source? Trust me, Bruh? 👍

@cactusman7345 I don’t think it is. I agree there seems to be a bit of a 2-tier justice thing going on for leftist fear of offending a certain demographic’s sensitivities but in this case I think he would have been imprisoned and justice would have been served. It could be partly because the crime was so public and caught on camera, I accept that. But even if it hadn’t been Rushdie but some anonymous nobody and this dude had done what he did he still would’ve been banged up for a long time. I have no time for Islam (or any organised religion) but it’s too easy to exaggerate these things as the OP has clearly done in this case. 👍

@-Tidgy I’m not burying my head. I can’t stand Islam. Or any organised religion. But I realise that in an open, democratic, free society there is such a thing as freedom of religion. And I agree that certain elements of Islam are causing too much trouble too often in Western Europe (and elsewhere). However, I know dozens of Muslims and to a man and a woman they would condemn Matar’s actions. All that said, I’m wary of the continued mass European importation of immigrants with radically different cultures/religion to the host society. Immigration is also way too high. So, on many points, I probably agree with you. However, condemning a whole demographic for the acts of a few is folly. It would’ve been like demonising the whole Irish population for the acts of the IRA back in the day.

@ Yeah, I’d probably agree with that Derren Brown quote. However, I still stand by 2 essential points: 1) vast majority of Muslims I know would condemn this dude. 2) However, I’m wary of mass importation of a religion/culture(s) often wholly at odds with a free, liberal, open democracy. 2 pertinent examples I find rather distasteful are, for example, Islam’s attitude to women and their stance on homosexuality. One final thing: any philosophy that doesn’t dig dogs was always going to have a problem with me.👍
