It’s always amusing watching British weather. Whenever anything slightly out of the ordinary happens, it’s always exaggerated. Wind gusts of 100mph are treated like hurricanes where in actual hurricanes sustained winds are at 150mph. 3 consecutive days of over 25°C are classified as a ‘heatwave’ when other places on the planet have 30°C+ every single day of the year, and many places have summer temperatures topping 40°C for months on end! A ‘severe cold snap’ is a few days of about 0°C when proper ‘cold snaps’ are in places like Canada or Siberia where for weeks on end it can be -20°C and below. British weather is beige. Even when it’s ‘extreme’, it’s beige. Why? Latitude. Mainly. And sea. Oh, and Gulf Stream. For example, Calgary, Canada is at almost exactly the same latitude as London, England, yet London is a good 8-10°C warmer in the winter months!
