  1. What’s always been confusing about the death penalty in the US is that the vast majority of those supporting it also follow Jesus. Yet Jesus was quite explicit about stuff like this: “You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.” (Matthew 5:38-39) Personally, I’m against the death penalty for one main reason: risk involved in executing innocent people. If I were on a jury where the possibility of the death penalty were involved, I’d be mighty reluctant to convict as there could always be the possibility of a mistake. 12 Angry Men is essential viewing here.
