If you want to be reminded of just how depressingly primitive and unevolved human beings are, watch this and weep. The only real way to solve this seems to be an enlightened non-partisan education. When you have one country (India) steeped in one religious tradition and another (Pakistan) created on the basis that it was going to live out another religion, this is the logical consequence. On seeing this nonsense one is reminded of the words of Steven Weinberg: With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

@alexanderangelo7284 Weinberg’s words nail it for me. Religion appears to trigger and validate the most barbaric behaviours in humans.

@Nic1963D Do you? I don’t. I quite literally couldn’t care less about either side.

@jimbocho660 I was just making the wider point about Pakistan being created as an explicitly Muslim nation, and this feeding into all this. I realise that this specific report is an intra-Indian one, based on the usual religious nonsense humans just can’t seem to surmount.

@alexanderangelo7284 Agreed. Very often political ideologies are just as much to blame as organised religion; or rather, the humans that passionately uphold these ideologies. However, while religion has done some good, the evil done in its name far outweighs this historically. I’ve never quite understood why people can’t just have a faith without getting together with others. Then I’m reminded of Pirsig’s words: When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called a Religion .

@alexanderangelo7284 I would add, I’m not an atheist, my animus is just reserved for all organised religion in its more egregious aspects.

@Nic1963D Choose sides? What? Between Muslims and Hindus? Why would I do that?
2
@Nic1963D What? You keep making baseless statements. Try again. Try better.

@sandesh9240 Yes, and all this stuff is based around primitive human beings hitching their core identity to this god or that god, and it’s all very depressing, but all too familiar, to watch.

@ankitdubey459 Wtf are you on about? They are polytheists.
2
@ankitdubey459 Do what you want. All you religious nutters want locking up. Leave me out of it.
2
@ankitdubey459 1. I don’t have a God. 2. Most forms of Hinduism are henotheistic, which means they worship a single deity, known as “Brahman,” but still recognize other gods and goddesses. Followers believe there are multiple paths to reaching their god. You appear to be talking of Buddhism, not Hinduism. You seem confused. Hinduism is very much a theistic faith.
2
@ankitdubey459 Look mate, you are one against billions here; billions of Hindus, followers of a faith upholding deity and deities. If you consider Hinduism to be a non-theistic faith, you are deluded. If you want to go for one of those, I kindly recommend Buddhism.

@hjoydulocg8r76ip7 I’ve had a perfect ‘basic morality’ all my life with no religion required. 😉

@hjoydulocg8r76ip7 Lol. Are you telling me I need to be ‘taught’ that theft and murder are bad?! That’s just kinda common sense, bud.
