  1. Liked Sinéad. Raw, fierce and honest like some kind of Celtic pagan warrior. Imo, only real wrong step she made was to throw her religious deck in with Islam. This appeared to be a reaction against the equally silly and pernicious Catholic Church, but why did she need any organised religion?

  8. Personally, I find this pretty repulsive, too, but 2 things to point out. Life expectancy in the 7th century was about 30. Moreover, even today in some countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Libya, Iran, Pakistan, and Qatar, there is no age of consent but people must be married. The tradition Mohammed followed in Saudi in the 7th century doesn’t appear to be all that different from today.

  13.  @divatalk9011  If O’Connor hadn’t been so stewed in Irish Catholicism from the beginning, I’d bet my life there’d have been no Islam later on. For the life of me, I never understand why we indoctrinate our children into unverified, unverifiable stuff like God and religion before they are capable of that choice themselves. It’s one of humans’ worst forms of child abuse, in the mental sense.

  15.  precious9157  No. I understand it. I repeat: I consider all organised religion manmade. Doesn’t mean I’m necessarily an atheist, just means I think men wrote a bunch of books and used them to control others based on the very natural human fear of death.

  18.  precious9157  No. I have understood it. The book, written by men, is the tool, as you say. I just happen to think it’s poppycock based on manmade fairytales. If you want to “connect to the divine”, whatever that even means, given there is zero credible for a deity in the first place, you don’t need a book for that. Just go out and touch some grass.

  19.  @sabtaingopinath9652  I have read the Koran. I found much of it staggeringly tedious and staggeringly barbaric and primitive in equal parts. It rather reminded me of the Old Testament on both counts. 👍
