Mortar launched smart munitions that hop over buildings and top attack tanks. That's what you want mounted on a BTR. Sit it behind the house the infantry are securing. It's in cover for loading those troops if it's time to make a quick getaway.

Hang on, hang on. So the BTR requires infantry to carefully move forward and secure every house and junction, no doubt punishing urban contact, to protect the BTR. What's the BTR even there for? It's direct fire support once they've dismounted. Which means the enemy can see it. This seems a bit circular logic. It should go back for re-enforcements surely? Or maybe set up for indirect fire. Able to accurately lob 40mm and 120mm grenades and mortar rounds from cover.
