  1. Correct, our land based telescopes use three or four reference lasers to measure atmospheric jitter. A computer then calculates the required inverse optical device to cancel those aberrations out. Finally, servos in the adaptive optics reshape the optics to match the computer model and now your telescope behaves such that there is no atmosphere. And this process is completed hundreds or thousands of times per second. It's why we're building bigger and bigger land based telescopes instead of launching them into space ala Hubble or JWST.

  3.  @bashkillszombies  Um, solid state lasers have come further than you can imagine. We're already deploying laser defense systems and they've been used in combat. It's a solved problem now, just endless scaling of power next.
