@TinyBearTim Ground pressure is directly proportional to weight, half the weight, half the ground pressure. However, ground pressure is inversely professional to the area of the tracks, so the inverse square law comes into play, a small increase in task length gets you a large decrease in ground pressure. But, ground pressure means nothing to bridges where it's only weight. The biggest obstacle to river crossing, though, is preparation of the entry and exit, which needs lots of work otherwise you just beach getting into or out of the water.
