The Dispossessed is the kind of book that after you finish it, you wonder how its not talked about more. I think if it wasn't tagged with the label sci-fi, itd be considered one of the greats next to 1984 and Brave New World.

@levmikhov Wrong, writing about complaints is a great way to journal. The idea is getting the complaints from out of your head and onto the page. The key is making sure they stay on the page. Its much better than internalizing the complaint.

@CarrotConsumer It doesn't surprise me either, however its less controversial than 1984 is by a long shot and that's still being read in American high schools today. Also the book isn't necessarily "Pro-anarchy". Although the MC hails from an anarchist planet, he starts to see the issues with that way of life in itself through his friends and family. He sees the corruption still. Le Guin does a good job of weighing the pros and cons in a subtle way. You can't say she writes it as a bias in the novel in the same way you would for something like, Atlas Shrugged.

Stoics never say to have a stiff upper lip. This is the most common misconception of the stoic philosophy. The stoics believed in change of perception, not the avoidance of emotion. It's a bummer to see that the current public perception of Stoicism is so warped. I think if you actually read some, you'd see that's not the case. Either way, I hope you're ok.

He has this in the description with Amazon links to each. Although he may not have when you originally posted this.

Agreed. This quote reminds me of that. "The cure to boredom is curiosity. There is no cure to curiosity" -Dorothy Parker

Great Vid Jared. Im starting Suneater next month! I have a suggestion for scif-fi. It's called Blindsight by Peter Watts. It's hard Sci-Fi first contact with the main theme being consciousness, and he gets deep into it. I think you'd really enjoy it.

Sadly that can happen. Ive had that once or twice but not often enough. I try and buy from local bookstores to support them but I also need to support my own wallet from time to time.

Awesome list as always, Jared. I've only read the seneca writing out of these, and it's incredible. Looking forward to checking out the rest

The amount of value your discord and videos have added to my life is high. I'll do what I can to help through these times Jared. Sorry to hear about all of this. I hope it's a blessing in disguise.

I find author James Clears advice from Atomic Habits. One device/area one use. I find when I use a laptop, I get distracted by all the uses

Thanks for the list Jared. Ive read 4 out of these 10 and also hold each in high regard. I trust your opinion so thank you for the suggestions and brief overview of each.

Orrrr it could be a freudian slip 😉

Ehhhh, lots of metaphysical aspects of it are too theoretical. Its why eastern Philosophy in general doesnt do it for me. Ethics as well is too heavily reliant on deities that dont exist.

@ 4:00 This is incredibly motivating. Especially since I have seen it true through my own efforts. I appreciate you saying this about reading hard books. It really does payoff.

Well said. There's no obvious agenda in the writing even though there is so much potential to be one. She's a master

Look up "moral presentism" and learn how to not look at things that way because you will miss out on a lot of good philosophy outside of those current, modern issues.

Book suggestions are always solicited lol

@jerichothirteen1134 Its obvious you havent even really finished any of her works as you say. You probably saw one thing about gender and ignorantly called it woke. At least read a full novel before commenting or else you come off as presumptuous and foolish. But hey to each their own

@AnuragSharma-pi4yr I saved that sentence on my kindle as well! The whole experience of them going onto the Rorschach for the first time was horrifying. In the best of ways.
