  1. There are two likely outcomes to this ridiculous imperative: 1. They'll realize it's stupid and compromise. 2. The country will grind to a halt, because a significant proportion of the population won't be able to work.

  3. Start-stop might be better than you think. A lot of energy is recovered through regenerative braking. Speed and distance are the real problems for electric vehicles. I can see only one way of making it work for everyone: autonomous vehicles. They charge themselves.

  4. Similar thing happened in Texas a couple of years ago. They shivered for two weeks because they don't have gas, completely dependent on a single energy source.
