This story is all over the news but it's virtually meaningless owing to the fact it doesn't distinguish between Christian culture and religion. Only 5-10% attend church regularly, and that's been the case since the 1980s, maybe earlier. From that perspective, little has changed. This begs the question: what did people think they were being asked, when they filled out their census forms? Do people think Christianity is like a football shirt they can wear for identification, though they might never ever kick a ball? But if today's statistic means people are being more honest - if only to admit agnosticism - that's good isn't it?

The CoE lost their churchgoers decades ago - for myriad reasons. That's why the ones left are all old. Go elsewhere and you'll find thriving churches full of all ages and backgrounds.

@stephfoxwell4620 That's just the CoE. The most recent figures I can find confirm 5% across all denominations.
