  1. I think Anders missed on reason that the US doesn't want Russia collapse. A collapse of Russia would result in massive questions about who controls some or all the nukes in Russia. You will suddenly have over 6,000 nuclear warheads lying around in the country, nukes that could be sold off to hardline Muslim countries or other unstable regimes. Given the predilection for Russian officers to sell off stuff to whoever will give them money for the goods, it could lead to scenarios that put weapons in the hands of completely unstable madmen. I always liked the line from the movie "The Peacemaker", "I'm not afraid of the man who wants ten nuclear weapons, Colonel. I'm terrified of the man who only wants one."
