The real issue is the American public wants social benefits, wants a huge army, but the American does not want to fund these expenses with taxes. All the other developed countries have a value-added tax to fund the social benefits. Canada has a federal goods and services taxes. Americans you have to realize that you cannot have your cake and eat it ! In Canada we prefer to say: You cannot have your butter and the money to buy your butter!

After the 2008 financial crisis, the Bank of International settlement established The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision is the primary global standard setter for the prudential regulation of banks. The recommendation of the Basel Committee were implemented by most western democracy, with the exception of the USA. In the United States only the very large banks were subjected to the Basel convention. All the regional banks lobbied hard the Congress to be excluded. Had the Silicon Valley Bank be subjected to the Basel C=convention, it would not have failed.
