Imagine if 'soufflé' was translated into 泡蛋煎饼 (puffed-up eggs' pancakes) instead of directly transliterated into 舒服累 (literally meaning "comfortable (&) tired")

'Face' has the same meaning as 'dignity' in this context

I thought 推論 is closer in meaning to 'hypothesis'

There's also the Chinese transliteration/translation for ' sungei ' ('river' in Malay) - 双/雙溪 (shuāng xī, which sounds similar to the Malay word, & also literally means "double creek")

Quite a number of IndoChinese languages are distant relatives of Chinese too I think, & is probably why the Chinese names of some places there sound quite different from their English names e.g. Kanchanaburi, Thailand - 北碧 (bĕi bÌ; sounds like 'baby'; literally means "north jade"), Vientiane, Laos - 万/萬象 (wàn xiàng; sounds like "one hsiang"; literally means "10000 elephants")
