SG deliberately diluted the real issue here which is really shocking ! The debate is not whether hijab is right or wrong. Debate here is whether one has the right to wear whatever religious attire she wants and still can go to school or not. And in that area law is very clear. Everyone has the right to wear anything they choose be it ghungat , mangalsutra or hijab. If we want to dig regressive practices every religion has those including Hinduism. Let's not divert the real issue here. A non issue can be whipped up by hooligans in India just for political points.

Why would a school authority impose an uniform on people from different cultural background ? If they want to do so they should do with after consultation with every community. Why should it exclude certain section ? A school is not a constitutional or legal authority. If they want students from all background they have to cater to their sensibilities. School is not a dictatorship.

Do we really need to scratch our head that much when the politics that is being played by BJP RSS here is very obvious ! World over Muslim girls can go to school wearing hijab or Burqa including in the US UK and all other civilized countries. We are not passing a judgement here on who is regressive or who is not. We just want to ensure our kids can go to school while practicing their faith OR lack of faith whatever way they want. ITs a very basic argument. No need to complicate it any further .

@harshb747 Why I am not seeing you are calling for ban on Mangalsutra, sindur wearing teachers in schools ? What Indians need is not same as what a bunch of RSS hooligans need. So shut up. Indian constitution ALLOWS every Indian citizen to wear any religious attire they want.

Educational institutions are not legal bodies that can regulate a citizen's right to practise religion. In such cases a person's constitutional freedom is paramount. Even Army in India can not stop Sikhs from wearing Turbans.

Ranjeet Kumar Many married students wear sindur and mangalsutra in school. And WHO decides teachers dont have uniforms ? Teachers themselves. Not any law or constitution. Therefore if teachers has the freedom , students should too.

@kemalataturk1917 Not at all. No sikh student is denied entry in ANY school with uniform. Religious attire is part of school dress. Why dont you focus your energy on better problems like your own education rather than hating others ?

I would like to see Saraswati puja being banned in Indian schools..why not shout about that first ? Of course being a BIMARU all you do all day is chant "muslim , muslim , muslim'.
