  1. arms and military are massive employers in the US, how can they justify billions of dollars for a new aircraft carrier if there is no bogeyman in the world. So the US Politicians launder money back to themselves during conflictst that they start / encourage, and the politicians get their kickbacks from the weapons manufacturers for massive weapons sales

Nazi Germany wiped the floor of Europe because most of Europe was recovering from the great depression and military was their last thought, meanwhile Germany had been advancing their military equ and trainind in the Spanish Civil War, Europe believed in "Peace for our Time" so when Germany attacked - they were up against WW1 biplanes, horse cavalry in their modern tanks & metail planes. Hardly need good leaders to defeat nations when they put up no opposition.
