  1. they were not RU backed separatists in the west, they were RU speakers from UA. They wanted to hold a referendum against the advice of Putin, RU tried to enforce Minsk 2 ceasefire agreements that Merkal has admitted were a sham to allow the west time to weaponise, train, build up & train UA military by NATO to NATO standards
