@callumpettitt8192 power isn't numbers. Turkey dwarves France in that sense. France has a claim on 2nd, especially until QE is ready but generally it's based on spend over time. Without deep analysis a 5-10 year spend is a quick view.

@sphex1425 there was just a review on HS2 that said it was justified and I don't think any major parties are cancelling it. It not a political football.

Labour policy seemed like everything else they say something you want but it's the paying for its that's the problem. Else where it's about unsustainable borrowing. But for the forces he's not increasing spending. He'll give better benefits, because he'll happily strip our war fighting capability.

@Retrosicotte the French army is a chunk bigger, its a continental army. But it's pretty irrelevant power wise.

What trident do you think we have? We are on the minimum 4 subs for the perpetual deterrent. We have limited missiles and warheads. Just enough to ensure it can't make sense to attack us.

@emmy9345 a major war would kill millions conventionally for nuclear war to be a deterrent it has to be a step up. Also our warheads aren't that big, only 100kt, compare 50,000kt as the biggest. You also have to be certain they can't be stopped, a few warheads could be taken out by missile defences.
