You also have a British convention of "+", they'll often understate by saying something like 25km+ instead of 40km. It all means public stated ranges don't mean that much.

Anything we are getting now like this or the carriers is a prebrexit decision, military projects take time. We'll see in a decade what Brexit brings. Generally though the military constantly get news kit and updates, it not really that special.

This is a British development, MDBA is as much British as French, head office location means jack. Some MDBA projects are multinational but CAMM is a specifically British project.

@ThatCarGuy it's not a back up to long range SAMs, it's a back up to jets.
4
@TT-hd3zi CAMM is British, CAMM-ER is an Italian onward development.

@justonecornetto80 This isn't just at the moment. The Dutch and Royal Marines have a very close relationship in particular but you've also seen things like the perisher sub course where the Netherlands took over the conventional sub part when we went all nuclear.

Neither, it's a good quality system but not ground breaking to be overly scary and we won't be letting them dissect one.
3
@HighHopesBass NATO have generally said they won't fight, so probably not.
2
@TT-hd3zi Right. When your talking about conventional threat like jets, they also aren't being replaced 1:1. But there is a big worry about how to deal with newer problems like cheaper drones.
2
In the context of general strategy this is a back up to air superiority. At the point where the enemy are running SEAD missions we've probably already lost.
2
@TT-hd3zi it doesn't depend in that we don't have a long range SAM system for it to be back up to. More generally the longer range SAMs may have utility against ballistic missiles but also have issues with cruise missile due to them low flying, and given the extra cost they are likely a worse option than something like sky sabre.

@TT-hd3zi I really don't see it adding much. Unconstrained by budget sure, it's not worthless, but I think there are higher priorities.
1
This is a much bigger and more capable system, you can't expect one for one.
1
@TT-hd3zi sure, that's why we are buying a bigger and more capable system.
1
@campdw Looking into it a bit it seems we dropped down to 24 Rapier units around 2004 and the plan is 24 Sky Sabre, so we are actually going 1:1 but it must be pulling resources from somewhere else.

It's not just you, it's much smaller, which fits with it not being a long range system like the two you mentioned.
