Oil companies do pay hundreds of millions if not billions in tax each year. And oil isn't just for making money but essential for normal people.

@CaliPlays5651 so first off, this isn't about Oman specifically who have relatively little, but the region. Secondly the countries don't want to keep there oil they want to sell it.

We want to export our military hardware, it's not genrally wanted.

Oil (and gas) are certainly important, but the deep water port on the Indian Ocean (over say Bahrain) speak to it not being the only reason.

You build the base in the secure country to affect the insecure ones.
3
Would one of the major factors in the cost of living be oil and gas, something this is directly addressing?
2
@limitlessLtd oil isn't going away but there is potential for gulf oil being less important with renewables and things like US and Canadian exports.
2
Wheres the colonialism?
2
A main centre of operations for an area. You see forces head there first from the UK before fanning out to small bases or embed inother countries.
2
This isn't for Oman sake, and Oman isn't particularly rich.

@Tihamah5 Just so your aware, Oman is the only Challenger 2 buyer, your posts about earlier years are about Challenger 1, which Jordan bought. Challenger 1 has the longest kill record but wasn't exemplary hence 2, but the idea either is the worst ever just makes me think your trolling.
2
It's one of the most stable countries in the region.

How do you think that means it's a colony? Why do you think it mess sense to say contradictory things? Either the UK is a power controlling or it's irrelevant and weak. The two are contradictory. But the truth is it's neither, it's neither controlling nor weak, it's just a normal country.

In case your interested in understanding? Friendly and well governed is great, friendly and badly governed or unfriendly and well governed can be worked with, unfriendly and badly governed is a problem. There's no hypocracy just depth.
1
Which side?
1
Maybe not democracy but peace makes money.
1
Why Russia? Russia doesn't offer a genuine alternative like the USSR. China maybe some one you could use as a power broker, not Russia.
1
Belt and road is a factor but you know this is opposing it?
1
@discipleaj I hope your a troll, because it would be sad to see some one put in so much effort with so little understanding.
