  1. I think we need to start breaking down the word drone into smaller divisions. Your smaller suicide drones are much more comparable to missiles than aircraft and even your large ones don't have most of the capabilities of a modern jet and that's a lot of why they are cheaper.

  6. Though useful your more advanced drone dropping bombs doesn't change the dynamic, they are expensive enough to be worth destroying with your airforce or air defences.

  7.  @josephsherman5288  if your going to stand a chance you need to know about explosives and other weapons, drones don't change that. If there a good counter then it will be that gives a government power not the drones that are currently giving none state actors power.

  8. I think the problem with the first isn't that you don't get anything out of it, it's that you are over paying for what you get. If you run them as tech demonstrator projects it all good, if you run them for production and cancel there's a lot of waste. I agree with your second point that it may not be a case of new tech but simply understanding the threat and tailoring your training and equipment to counter it. As with everything drone related there's wide range of what a term means. A US drone swarm and terrorist drone swarm will likely be so different in capability so as to need entirely different responses.

  10. The biggest advantage of drones is they are disposable, if you still need the radar, engines, stealth, counter measures etc of a fighter you still have most of the cost.
