@pikgaming5955 "de-perming" is still performed on military ships. Now imagine an induction coil big enough to park a CVN within.

@esbendit great news! The question on the small guns on the side of the Richellou question was answered in Drydock 015. They were ... best to watch the episode 🤓

@esbendit practice guns, many navies (including USN) used them. They were smaller (e.g less than 2 inch) and aligned with the main guns. Firing these smaller guns gave the gun directors practice in spotting and correcting for the fall of shot at a minor cost. Obviously, they used scaled down range tables and shot at towed targets. Edit: I can't find a picture of Richellou with these target practice guns. Sorry, I may have given you an incorrect answer. The use of smaller target practice guns as I described is a real thing.

@esbendit sorry, I can not be 100% sure what they are. Maybe they are what I was talking about https://images.app.goo.gl/UbLsraKAtuYVY2Li9 In this picture, you can see the small sub caliber guns strapped to the top of the main gun barrels for gunnery practice. There is some resemblance.

@stevewyckoff6904 it was an insane amount of effort. Now the ship design is a virtual solid model with meta data that shows the maintenance envelopes, power draw, part number weight.... e.t.c of each component. You can virtually walk thru the ship and operate each component. From the model, flat drawings are generated for production. The slavery of pencil and ink drawing tables required a huge staff, not much improved by 2D cad. I once spent 2 years on a drawing for one large component for CVNs
