The ol' war is peace and freedom is slavery play, eh. This is emblematic. The right to smoke isn't THAT important in and of itself but just as with souls we lose our freedoms in increments. Often to greater darker forces purporting to act in our own interests or for a greater good.

Smokers effectively pay for their potential smoking related healthcare costs through the eye watering government duty they collectively pay on cigarettes. Their likelihood of dying sooner than the average age of death is on average 10 years younger. Statistically longer living non-smokers will inevitably die from or with something else which will also require expensive health or social care such as dementia. This renders the cost to the taxpayer argument redundant.

Yeah, well I think that if nothing else they finally realise that he's by far the less of two evils compared to Biden. He's might be a deeply flawed character but funnily enough the penny's dropping with increasing numbers of Americans too.

My long gone grandmother was 86 when she died and likely smoked for 75 of those years. She used to say of smoking, 'it's my only pleasure in life' and we used to quietly mock her for it out of earshot. Looking back though it obviously bought her pleasure, she was really affecting no one else profoundly other than herself and she lived to what was even then, statistically, a ripe old age.

Waiting for my comment on smoking to appear....FFS.

Yep. These thinly veiled authoritarians are thin end of the wedgers forever looking for the next tiniest crack to exploit .

Triffic. Now Spectator thread is being heavily censored. Be it Speccie or YT it doesn't bode well.

He's adjudged 'a rapist' by a civil (not criminal) decision based on a balance of probabilities. His accuser can't even remember which year the alleged offence took place and it was tried in NY state, a Democratic stronghold, after the statute of limitations was changed specifically to pursue Trump. It was essentially her word against his. The fraud allegations, similarly, were pursued in NY and pertain to the actions of individuals working within the Trump Organisation but not Trump himself. As to the claim that he is an insurrectionist he has not been either charged or convicted of that by any criminal court to date.

The Trump case was even worse than that. Not only was it her word against his in a civil not criminal case and she couldn't even remember the year the assault took place the prosecution in the subsequent defamation case was seeking $18m and the NY jury instead awarded her $83m. This is modern lawfare conducted in politically partisan kangaroo courts. America is in a truly dark place at the moment and we're not far behind.
