This is a great discussion. Too sad, that so few people will get to hear it. Where we are was inevitable and our politicians and our institutions bear the bulk of responsibility for it.

Just for the record J6 was a riot not the 'armed insurrection' that is often deliberately mischaracterised as.

The young lady makes the point that a good many ethnic minorities are concerned too about the effects of forever unchecked immigration. Sadly, they are often dishonestly accused, invariably by virtue signalling middle class types, of 'pulling up the ladder'.

Aah, we have ourselves another chin stroker, Holmes!!

His wife's of Indian descent, he's a true Labour supporter unlike most of the bougie self serving tossers in the party nowadays and he knows and understands more about the working classes than you ever will.

I think I'd remain as anonymous as possible too if I made a daft comment like that.

They've just been voted in with a massive majority FFS!!

It wasn't to close the border it was to regain control of it and limit immigration but, point taken, this patently hasn't happened despite numerous empty promises to do so. A good part of the reason we are where we are today.

Good point.

Although social media's role is undeniable in this, it's worth noting that riots, particularly in the summer months in the UK, have been occurring long before it came along.
2
It's officially termed 'illegal' immigration because these people enter the country 'illegally'. Most people understand the term 'illegal', but unfortunately none of our politicians do and nor does our Home Office. Time for a rebrand perhaps?

Not even opinion. He's clearly innocent, this was a grave miscarriage of justice for him and his colleagues and a blatant stitch up by a craven US establishment.

George Floyd wasn't murdered. Those three policemen, two from an ethnic backgrounds, were thrown under the bus by the US establishment and its institutions. I'm still amazed this miscarriage of justice has been ignored by just about everyone.

Stupid comment upvoted by far more stupid people than I ever would have imagined.

People are asking and have long been asking/signalling for via democratic means, particularly those most affected by it, for greater immigration controls. These tragic riots are the inevitable outcome of that failure by a supremely arrogant, contemptuous UK establishment to acknowledge or act upon that plea.

Can't believe how literal and/or thick some of the commenters on here are being about Paul's Japan/Lebanon analogy.

This will be used as yet another excuse to erode civil liberties and extend the security state. 2001 Patriot Act anyone?

There's no more such a thing as 'a white race' than there is such a thing as 'a black race'.
1
Starmer's recent overwhelming 'victory' should also be a wake up call that it's time to change our broken FPTP voting system to something far more representative.

'Left wing' in the middle class metropolitan elite cuckoo New Labour kind of way you mean?

The Guardian long ago became a busted flush.
