  1. That's your own speculative and incorrect interpretation. Trade (leading to stability, peace and closer security cooperation between allies) may be one reason why the US would protect a place such as Taiwan, but it's not for self-serving purposes. US has signed into law that it has to protect Taiwan and its perceived sovereignty.

  2.  Evan Gelical  Why would they send hundreds of millions dollars on an annual basis to international projects, charities and countries to help them out then? Why would they sent their own military troops to protect African countries or other undeveloped states? Don't talk about the US not caring about anybody but themselves when there's dozens of countries that you actually could point fingers towards in that regard.
