Bolsonaro was elected because he appealing to christians, Brazil's nationalists (he's in favor of the military dictatorship and wishes that more dissidents would've been killed), and since he's a capitalist supporting all industries by deregulation and stimulative policy, especially the thriving meat, agricultural and forestry industry. He's a staunch anti-communist that run on a law & order platform. The only real criticism I have against him is his general libertarian stance on some issues such as the environment, the coronavirus, the amazon wildfires and some social/health issues.
