  1. The lifestyle by many and the interests by the average person are responsible for the type of consumer-based society and mass production facilities that exists. Shopping, travelling, purchasing useless stuff, gilding one's appearance in an excessive way, filling up several wardrobes, etc, is the go-to by many, not just the rich. The rich may be lobbying to avoid change, but the average person in society aren't willing to give up their way of living either.

  2.  @bankerborsch  Your freedom will be soon gone anyway if you don't force people to take responsibility. That doesn't just apply to the climate. I don't think lockdowns should be enforced to handle climate change though, transitioning into renewables sources and electrifying the road would be better. Investing in tree planting/green projects and researching improved fuel would be effective too.

  3. It's quite remarkable that global emissions only decreased 7% under the pandemic. 7%. Transitions from the dirty fossil industry is the only solution to this level of continued pollution and climate change. Something that many countries are adhering to, including China, likely the US (at least in due time), and Poland recently announced that they'd abandon their reliance on coal power plants (very widespread in Poland).
