"It's really heartbreaking seeing people equating Belarus to Lukashenka." My impression has been that people are not doing that.

@evryatis9231 "it means no one will say anything when it happens either" Don't be so sure. In one poll mentioned in one of Perun's videos says that most Belarusians estimate that the Belarusian army would just surrender if sent to Ukraine. That does not bode well for using the Belarusian army in Ukraine.

@hayven3494 "he wanted Belarus to be free and not become part of Russia" It's more like that he wanted for Belarus to become a part of Russia but only with himself as the leader of Russia. Since Putin was able to get a firm grip on power in Russia he no longer wanted a union state.

@JOHNSMITH-if9jr It's a conscript army meaning it's made of ordinary people and a clear majority of ordinary people in Belarus don't want to invade Ukraine so there is close to zero motivation for doing things like that among the ranks. It also means that it's not that loyal to Lukashenko. Thus he needs separate (professional, not conscript) internal security forces who are more loyal to him.

"Belarus is not a separate country it was de facto annexed by Russia years ago." I don't buy that. Lukashenko just keeps promising a union state, maybe, someday, to keep getting cheap gas and oil.

I'm not sure doing merely that would help Russia. Russia did that early in the war but the strain of extra front clearly wasn't worth it and they withdrew.
