@TheRanguna My understanding is that at least in the case of Sweden and specifically crimes committed with firearms or explosives (and not necessarily all crime types) certain immigrant groups are far, far more likely to commit them them than the native population and many other immigrant groups.

So Finland is doing less badly than Sweden? Incredible.

Education has degraded in Finland too, though perhaps less so than in Sweden.

Billions of USD or SEK? If you meant the former, that seems rather overoptimistic. The population is about 10 million so billions per year would mean hundreds per person per year. Surely Swedes would not smoke so much weed that just the tax from them would be hundreds per person on average?

@SusCalvin Here in Finland comparisons are often made to Sweden. For many, many years Sweden seems to have been doing better, at least in terms of economy (but not necessarily in e.g. primary education or gun violence) having more GDP growth, less unemployment, and less debt. Sweden having worse GDP growth figures now is a little bit of a surprise.

@SusCalvin I'm more referring to the past 2 or 3 decades, not the Cold War era.

One relevant thing I've sometimes seen in the news is that apparently not many people aspire to be teachers in Sweden so those that train to be teachers tend to be ones that didn't get anywhere else. (Disclaimer: I'm from Finland so I'm not super familiar with the situation in Sweden. This is just something I've sometimes seen mentioned in the news.)

@weird-guy At least in the case of Finland there's been more than 2 decades of decline, at least if you use PISA results as the metric. In 2000 did extremely well compared to most other countries participating in PISA but it's been downhill since then. PISA results have flaws as a metric for education quality but it probably still tells you something.
