A cop told me that if you want to defend your home get a pump action shotgun. Just the SOUND of a round being chambered will freeze anyone in their tracks--and you don't need good aim if you have to pull the trigger. I'm pretty sure we've never had a mass bricking event in this country.

@apokatastasian2831 There are plenty of Western nations that have the same societal problems we do. They don't have mass shootings, because they don't have insane numbers of guns. Look at the number of shooters and the guns they use. Mass shooters use large ammo clips for a reason. I had a very conservative teacher in high school who said the best defense was a shotgun. Someone broke into his neighbor's house and two shells of buckshot stopped the guy dead in his tracks. Messed up his own bedroom as well, but that's the breaks. A cop told me the same thing. He keeps a shotgun in his bedroom and taught his wife how to use it. I've used a shotgun before, shooting clays. The recoil bit my shoulder hard on that first shot, but it would still be my go to weapon if I needed one.

@keithbaker944 I've also heard that a barking dog of any kind can be a deterrent, if it's loud enough to wake the homeowner and alert the neighbors.
