  1. Republicans see Social Security as a needless expense. To most others it's a retirement program---you pay in and you get benefits later. You've paid for it. Social Security taxes are capped so they only affect the first $113,000 or so of someone's income. If we eliminated or raised that cap it would have enough money for decades, even with the baby boomers retiring.
