  1.  Hugh Jaynuss  I wouldn't say America was willing to accept them, not exactly. The Irish were one of many immigrant groups to be discriminated against and viewed as being inferior by the waspy-based political and moneyed folks at the time. Signs like "no Irish need apply" for jobs were common.
