When McDonald's and other companies don't pay people enough to live on, us taxpayers get screwed by covering making up some of the difference with public assistance----so we're subsidizing corporate profits. In Australia McDonald's pays a U.S. dollar equivalent of $15 per hour and still makes a ton of money. Maybe cut the CEO's overpriced salary and give the workers a raise.
