@MrShpoulsen That's exactly whey they can remain entirely 'neutral'. They are protected by other countries who pose no threat to them anymore. They don't have to worry about being invaded by Russia or China or some middle-east or African country. They benefit so tremendous from that support that they actually don't invest as much in defense as they use to.

@mysterioanonymous3206 But Switzerland has put a lot less focus on defense over the years. It's not needed as much considering they are surrounded by allies who have no intention of ever invading Switzerland. "historically we've been surrounded by hostile nation". Yes, and proportionate to the era, Swiss spent a lot more defense during that time.

Interesting. So always part of the policy but also not completely neutral in that humanitarian aid might only go to one side.

@hehejo8568 But the EU would never shut off Switzerland like that unless of course they did something truly horrible which wouldn't be something that we would ever expect from Switzerland. My point is that the Swiss benefit tremendously by being surrounded by countries that likely will never again invade Switzerland -- the EU provides that buffer from Russia, China, Middle-East, etc.

@janekmundt579 The swiss neutrality was forced on them 200 years ago but they could have at anytime got rid of it if they wanted to. Like Sweden did and to some extend (at least in regards to Russia), Finland did too.
