As for your concerns with the smaller cities, that’s where you can offer subsidies to entice rail companies to go there

People complaining about liberalization of rail after watching a that demonstrated quiet well that liberalization has lead to great growth in rail and even more in air transit.

@walli6388 lots of decent size towns in the US have airports. They are heavily subsidized

@boudewijnb I get it, you want to act like trains are superior all the the time. They aren’t. Once you get pass maybe 400 km, the flights are just so much faster overall. To use a train long distance, you need a direct HSR and those are few that are long distance and they cost a lot of money. Most people would rather spend 4hrs waiting at airport and flight time for 100 euro than 4hrs total for train but 200 euro

@batardbreton7083 I’ve seen great progress in a few countries in Europe, some discussed here like Germany and italy. It benefited the airlines tremendous so why is it difficult to understand it can do the same for rail? Sure you do have to manage it properly so it’s not a complete and total liberalizing of the rail

@boudewijnb not a good response. Most people are using Ryan air instead of train when cities are not THAT close by train. So Madrid to Rome for example. Not Madrid to Barcelona.

@mohammedsarker5756 bro, are people dense? Trains cost a lot of money and for longer distances are much more time. Most people would rather spend 100 euro for 4 hour total transit (flight plus airport time) than 200 euro for 4 hour total transit train

@lik7953 why are you people leaving out the fact it costs twice as much or even more to take the train from London to Paris on high speed than it does to take Ryan air or any cheap flights? These videos always bring in the uneducated circlejerk.
1
@HDrobveelben so it only makes sense for rich people who can pay 2x or 3x the costs of HSR vs a cheap flight
1
@yuvalw7543 I’m sorry, did you say you do t know why people would take a flight when they can save $100 and take 2 hours less commute than the train??
