Well, those people you named are but a few and the research still holds. I think what matters is where on their rise is the company when the entrepreneur leaves-dies-retires. If the company is still rising, the entrepreneur gone will have a negative impact for sure. If the company is already peaked, I don’t think the entrepreneur adds much. So Gates stepping down when he did in his 50’s was not a big deal. If Zuckerberg were replaced today that could be positive. So long as the company is no longer an innovative company, the entrepreneur adds little value compared to another accomplished CEO stepping in

Successful Entrepreneurs have a vision of innovation that a normal CEO doesn’t. So rising innovative company is indeed best served with the entrepreneur (it’s his vision the company the is based on) but once the company either is no longer innovate (becomes just part of the establishment corporation) or has shifted focus to innovation in something different, the original entrepreneur isn’t as important and a good ceo could do as good or better.
