Yes, I knew 95% of what's in this (well, maybe not much about the deeper dive into the components of the chips) but it was great story telling with great use of visual tools.

Outsourced it because it was too expensive to make in the US. Taiwan was still poor in the 80's so labor was cheap.

This was a great episode! I caught it a few days ago on Nebula but there is no comment section there so I'm here to read comments. I did want to add that given the US and west sanctioned Russia with full force, a partial blockade of Taiwan by China will likely now be met with strong sanctions against China. In addition, the US and Japan and maybe others would have a navy also patrolling Taiwan's water so the partial blockade would be ineffective -- or else China will have to shoot at US and Japanese naval ships. But they don't want war with them.

Now he needs one on SHIPS.

this one was pretty spot on. There isn't much to debunk. The ones where he has gotten debunked were the "How X stole Y" series. But since he was called out on the first of "how Europe stole Y" episode, began working with some fact checkers / historians. His last episode on the European series was much more factual. He had exaggerated some parts earlier for the purpose of story telling but I think he's cut back on that since then. The only part he might have problems with in this video is when he takes a few minutes to go in depth on the science and mfg of the chips. But that's not the important part of the video so it won't deserve a "Johnny Harris debunked!" video.

Because China has sided with Russia, is threatening to invade the peaceful country of Taiwan, has conc camps of Uyghurs, is looking to steal the south China sea and bully its neighbors.

@superstormthunder3 US isn’t perfect but China is bad for the world. US is what’s stopped China so far from invading Taiwan, actually taking control of the south sea, and who knows what else China would do — economically bully all democracies? US is also what’s kept Russia in check. Without the US, Russia would likely have not only taken all of Ukraine but also had taken over many other countries before.

@superstormthunder3 and my main point was that the issues between China - US is because China intends to do a lot bad things. So even if the US had nuked Guatemala last year, the issues US v China is about what China is doing and wants to do. I’m assuming you don’t support an invasion of Taiwan? Nor support Chinas attempt to steal most of the South China Sea? Nor do you support Chinas backing and support of Russia? You don’t see the same problems with US vs Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, etc. only China and North Korea in that region. And surely you understand both China and North Korea are a threat to the region and even beyond?

@superstormthunder3 just as I sent last comment, saw your news one. I very much hate the US military industrial complex. But that military industrial complex isn’t going to lead to the US invading Russia or China, two nuclear nations with large militaries. But we can’t let china just invade Taiwan and steal the South China Sea and steal parts of Japan, etc. that’s why the US has to be tough on China and Russia as well. But I also don’t want it to be dominated by the US so I support a stronger Europe in NATO and even out of NATO and I support a stronger Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia, etc. the more those countries grow in strength, the less influence the US has which means more countries are weighing on each matter / conflict.

@superstormthunder3 diplomacy works if the other side has reasonable goals. Russia and China don’t. That’s doesn’t mean give up on diplomacy because it’s still an important part of the process but it means that you can’t just use diplomacy with Russia and China. That’s why there is need to get more countries allied with each other and present a “block” that Russia and China have to get passed when diplomacy doesn’t work. For China and / North Korea, the US has partnered up with South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and india along with smaller partnerships with Philippines and Vietnam. Plus the UK and a few other Europeans are also helping out in the east. And with Russia, it’s most of Europe and most of those I already mentioned allied against China (not including India, Philippines and Vietnam or course).

@superstormthunder3 sure it will be better if that’s how it was — but that won’t happen unless China first says it won’t invade Taiwan and says it won’t try to take most of the South China Sea (and has to remove its bases from the artificial islands they built). But that won’t happen anytime soon so the US and others have to be prepared.

@superstormthunder3 I’m not that nervous about direct war with China and Russia. I’m more worried about proxy wars and economic wars that will result of this new Cold War. But here a positive sign — in the past month (well, before the whole spy ballon), China has been cooling off and softening a bit trying to possibly restart diplomacy. They replaced the individual in charge of wolf warrior diplomacy (that’s where Chinas diplomats are aggressive and at nasty things about others and when other leaders and diplomats respond back with N attack, China uses that for domestic audiences) and Xi calmed his rhetoric. Probably because Xi’s in a tough spot with relatively weak economy with major potential crisis and he sees most of the worlds economy teaming up against China which makes it harder on his economy. But I think it’s just temporary— once his economy is doing at least “okay” he will resort back regular.

@superstormthunder3 it’s hard to really know how hard to be against Russia and China. Too soft and russia and china will be aggressive and do what they want. Too hard and it might lead to more aggression from Russia and China. What is clear is that many countries should ally together against Russia and China and prepare themselves. NATO, QUAD, etc.

@superstormthunder3 What benefit does the human race have in preventing Russia and China from stealing lands and seas?
